MURPHYSBORO — Authorities said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon that a juvenile was shot and injured by a homeowner during an attempted home invasion in Murphysboro.

The incident reportedly happened around 3 a.m. Sunday. Murphysboro police report that two juveniles with weapons tried to break into a home when the homeowner fired his own weapon twice through the door. One of those shots apparently hit one of the suspects.

According to police, both suspects ran from the scene, with the one who was struck running to a nearby home to ask for help.

Investigators reported finding clothing and weapons believed used in the incident left near the home.

One of the weapons had been reported stolen, according to law enforcement.

The suspect who was shot was taken to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment and the second suspect was arrested Sunday night. They both face a charge of attempted home invasion.
