CENTRALIA — A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he reportedly struck a street light while driving at a high rate of speed through downtown Centralia.

Michael Allison reportedly struck the power pole at the northwest corner of Elm and McCord streets around 2:30 Wednesday morning and just as a Central City police officer was about to stop him for alleged speeding.

Allison was ultimately arrested for alleged driving under the influence, speeding, and possession of drug paraphernalia following the crash.

Allison exited the truck before he could be stopped but his wife Kimberly, a passenger in the truck, was told to stay inside until Ameren arrived and could remove a power line that had fallen across the truck. Neither of the truck’s occupants sustained injury in the crash.

Centralia firefighters responded to the call and remained at the scene until the downed electric lines could be removed from the road.
