Mt. Vernon warehouse destroyed in Saturday fire

MOUNT VERNON — A large fire Saturday destroyed a 200 by 400-foot warehouse in Mt. Vernon being used by Kendrick Paper Supply.

Located at 13th and Logan, the warehouse was used to store recyclables, and contained bales of cardboard, paper, and plastics.

Mt. Vernon firefighters were joined by Jefferson Rural, Waltonville, and Woodlawn departments who provided mutual aid.

Centralia City and Benton firefighters were called off when it was found there was no available water supply in the area to support their three aerial trucks.

A track hoe was ultimately brought in to tear some of the buildings sheet metal away so firefighters could better fight the blaze.

No one was reportedly in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
