CENTRALIA — An early morning house fire in Centralia has apparently claimed the life of one person.

The Marion County Coroner was called to the 600 block of North Hickory Street in Centralia after Centralia City firefighters discovered a body while fighting a fire at the home. No other information has been released at this time.

Centralia City firefighters attempted to gain entry into the home when they arrived at the scene around 5:40 a.m. but were pushed back by the flames.

All available city firefighters were called out to fight the blaze and Fire Protection District firefighters provided mutual aid at the scene, while Sandoval firefighters covered the downtown station in case of another fire call.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
