MCLEANSBORO — A Sunday afternoon house fire has claimed the life of a 57-year-old disabled McLeansboro man.

Clarence Jones reportedly activated his “Life Alert” call around 3:30 Sunday afternoon and informed emergency dispatchers that he had fallen out of his chair and couldn’t get back up.

According to Hamilton County Coroner Steve Bowling, when first responders arrived on the scene the house was engulfed in flames.

The State Fire Marshal’s office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are assisting with the investigation into the fire and Jones’ death.

Bowling said an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday in an effort to pinpoint a cause of death.
