Gerald E. Harker was charged in 2011 with two Class X felonies for the manufacture of more than 900 grams of meth and the possession of more than 900 grams of meth. Harker pleaded guilty to the possession charge in exchange for the manufacture charge being dismissed.

In addition to the 6-year prison sentence, Harker will have to serve 2-years mandatory supervised release upon the completion of his term.

According to court records, in June 2011 deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested Harker leaving a residence in Marion County in a taxi cab that was apparently speeding.

The cab was stopped and it was found that Harker had an outstanding Effingham County warrant for his arrest. A bag he had placed in the trunk of the cab reportedly contained a large quantity of meth and he was taken into custody.

Before the case could go to trial, however, Harker fled the area. He was ultimately found in Indiana and was extradited back to Illinois in September.
