CENTRALIA — Dr. Richard “Dick” Charles Baldwin, 103, of Centralia, passed away December 24, 2017, at the Centralia Manor.
He was born December 25, 1913 the son of Dr. G.W. and Susie (Morgan) Baldwin in Okawville. He married Anna Jean Curran at the Christian Church on August 18, 1940. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2016.
Survivors including his devoted daughter Russett Gibson, husband Paul of Arizona; treasured grandchildren Paul Jr. Gibson, wife Ellie of Swansea and Mindy Gransinger, husband Tom of Tupelo, MS.; and great-grandchildren Chase and Lilly Gibson, and Nicholas and Carly Gransinger; sister-in-law Virginia Wesner of Sun City, AZ.; and nephew Joe Scheets of Belleville.
In addition to his wife, Anna, he was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister Ruth Scheets.
Dr. Baldwin attended grade school and high school in Centralia. He furthered his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana in pre-dental education and graduated from Washington University Dental School in 1936. He served in the Air Force Dental Corps in San Antonio, TX from 1943 to 1946 at which time he returned to practice dentistry in Centralia. He retired from Dr. Richard C. Baldwin dentistry practice at the age of 65.
Dick also served as Boy Scout scoutmaster from 1937-1943 and was a member of the First Christian Church, Jaycees, Elks Club, Meadow Woods Country Club, Masonic Lodge and American Dental Association, Theta XI fraternity and Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity. Over the years, he truly had a passion for playing golf, oil painting, and most recently drawing on the computer. Dick will be remember as a loving father and grandfather.
Services for Dr. Baldwin will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Elaine Bush officiating.
Friends and relatives are invited to visiting hours from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Staude Cemetery in Okawville.
In memory of Dick, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Staude Cemetery.
