WAYNE COUNTY — Authorities are reporting the discovery of human remains found on a farm south of Boyleston, in rural Wayne County.

According to reports, a landowner discovered the remains Tuesday afternoon and notified authorities.Boyleston is just west of Fairfield.

The discovery brought a large number of law enforcement officials from the Illinois State Police and federal agencies – including a federal forensic investigation team — to the area to investigate.

The Wayne County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains discovered were human. State and federal agencies are processing evidence from the scene, which is a remote area several miles south of Boyleston.

The remains have not been identified and officials said it could take days, if not weeks to make a positive identification.
