CHICAGO (AP) — The top stories of 2017 in Illinois include the Legislature passing a long-overdue state budget and police dragging a passenger from a United Airlines flight at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.

The Associated Press on Wednesday released its list of the year’s 10 biggest stories. It includes a scathing Justice Department review of the Chicago Police Department and the alleged kidnapping of a University of Illinois scholar from China.

Also on the list: Attorney General Lisa Madigan and the Rev. Jesse Jackson announced big changes and the first total solar eclipse to sweep coast-to-coast across the U.S. in 99 years.
