WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 93-year-old Omaha, Nebraska man was killed Friday night in a two-car hit-and-run crash on Interstate 64 in Washington County.

According to Illinois State Police, around 5:05 p.m. Friday, a possibly black Cadillac STS with dark window tint driven by an unknown person and a 2014 Toyota Avalon driven by 56-year-old Eugene P. Tomasello, of Omaha were both eastbound on I-64near milepost 47 in Washington County.

The Avalon was traveling eastbound in the right lane when the Cadillac approached it from the rear at a high rate of speed.

The Cadillac made a lane change to the passing lane, then abruptly returned to the right lane before clearing the Avalon.

The passenger side of the Cadillac struck the driver’s side of the Avalon causing the Avalon to leave the roadway and strike a tree. An 81-year-old female passenger in the Avalon, Patricia A. Goeden suffered major injuries, and 93-year-old Ervin H. Goeden, both of Omaha, was killed.

The driver of the Cadillac did not stop at the scene of the crash and was last seen traveling eastbound on I-64. The Cadillac could have silver paint transfer on the middle or rear passenger side.

ISP and the ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call ISP District 13 at 618-542-2171 extension 1202.
