James F. Vandeventer

CENTRALIA — James F. Vandeventer, 82, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018, at SSM Health St. Marys Hospital in Centralia.

He was born March 30, 1935, in Centralia, son of Herschel E. Vandeventer and Ella Mae (Nimmo) Vandeventer. He married Judith Henning in 1963 and they later divorced.

He is survived by his daughter: Gayla Christ and husband Bill of St. Charles and his son: James C.”Curt” Vandeventer and wife Carla of Centralia; his three grandchildren: Brandi Vandeventer of Springfield, Elizabeth Ala and husband Sreeram Ala of Lake St. Louis, and Joshua Vandeventer of Centralia; a great-grandson: Arjun Ala of Lake St. Louis. Also surviving, his girlfriend of over 8 years and longtime friend for over 70 years: Mary L. Gore, of Sandoval.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

James worked for the Illinois Central Railroad as a Carman for 43 years and 7 months. He was a graduate of the Centralia Township High School. He was a member of the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201 and Odin Masonic Lodge 503.

Funeral Services for James Vandeventer will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Phil Poe officiating. Masonic Rites will be accorded at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. by the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Centralia Masonic Lodge 201 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
