JACKSON COUNTY — A 21-year-old Mount Vernon man was indicted Thursday by a Jackson County grand jury for an Oct. 21 shooting in Carbondale.

Romondo Bootchee was indicted on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. Bootchee was sentenced last week in Jefferson County Court to 25 years in prison for a drug deal that turned into an armed robbery.

The Jackson County indictment alleges that on or about Oct. 21, Bootchee caused injury to a victim by discharging a firearm. Bootchee was also indicted on the weapons charge because he had a previous conviction and was in possession of a firearm.

At about 3:18 a.m. Oct. 21, Carbondale police responded to a report of gunshot victim. The individual suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital.

Bootchee now faces charges of Class X felony aggravated battery with a firearm, which is punishable by six to 30 years in prison, and Class 3 felony unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, which is publishable by two to 10 years in prison.
