FAYETTE COUNTY — A Fayette County Bank is reporting counterfeit currency has surfaced in Vandalia.

According to the First National Bank of Vandalia, bank employees at one of their locations intercepted several fake $20 bills that were in deposits Tuesday morning from two local businesses.

Reports indicate that at first inspection the bills look real, but upon closer inspection the watermark cannot be seen. The bills also failed the counterfeit pen test.

If you discover counterfeit currency you’re urged to contact your local law enforcement agency.
