FAYETTE COUNTY — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 69-year-old Mulberry Grove man for the September 2017 murder of a 56-year-old Brownstown man.

According to reports, sheriff’s deputies arrested David Leroy Bright Wednesday with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Investigations and the Fayette County State’s Attorney’s office.

James Skinner was murdered September 17, 2017, at his residence in rural Fayette County.

Bail for Bright has been set at $1 million. He remains in the Fayette County Jail pending his appearance in court.

Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith thanked ISP Zone 7 Investigations for the many long hours they put into solving this case, he notes it’s nice to have such great help available when they call for assistance.

Smith also thanked the Bond County sheriff and state’s attorney for their assistance with the case.

According to Bruce Bowen who was Fayette County Coroner at the time, it was obvious that someone took Skinner’s life; however, he would not release the cause of his death at that time.

He described Skinner as a cattleman, involved in the raising and transport of cattle.
