CENTRALIA — Thelma Mae Hays, 93, of Centralia passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, at her home.
She was born December 18, 1924, in Centralia, daughter of Elijah Wood and Alice (McGrady) Wood. She married Earl Clark and they later divorced. She married Burl Hays and he preceded her in death in 1975.
She is survived by eight children: Harold Edward Clark of Walnut Hill, Lorene Morris and husband Marlin of Salem, Chuck Hays and Annette Ullrick of Centralia, Steve Hays and wife Charlene of Sandoval, Cheryl Pence of Odin, Brenda Strawn of Missouri, Robert Hays and wife Amy of Centralia, and Leslie Hays and Walter Foust of Texas; six grandchildren: Larry Hughes and wife Carla, Chrissy Smith and Shane Moodey, Chuck Hays and wife Jenny, Corey Hays and wife April, Rebecca Doolin, and Cynthia Reynolds and Anthony; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Wood and wife Pauline; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson: Kenny, five siblings: Dorothy Owens, Violet Clark, Gene Wood, Steve Wood, and Judy Higginbotham.
Thelma worked at the Centralia House Restaurant as a cook for 20 plus years and later retired. She enjoyed Bingo, canning, scratch off lottery tickets, and her flowers. She was of the Christian Faith and recently was baptized at The Rock Church in Centralia. Thelma’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home.
