RICHLAND COUNTY — A 54-year-old Olney man filed an open plea of guilty Thursday in Richland County Court to Class X predatory criminal sexual assault in exchange for a first-degree murder charge being dismissed.
Glenn R. Ramey was advised that despite the ultimate sentence in the case, as a sexually violent or sexually dangerous person he could be civilly incarcerated following his prison term. A Class X felony is punishable by up to 60 years in prison.
He will have to register for life as a sexual predator. A sentencing hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22. Ramey remains in the Richland County Jail with bail set at $10 million.
Ramey was originally charged with first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault. He has been held in the Richland County Jail since his arrest for the Nov. 23, 2016 slaying of Sabrina Stauffenberg.
The child’s body was found behind a vinegar plant on the south side of Olney, a town in southeastern Illinois of about 9,000 people.
According to prosecutors, Ramey suffocated Sabrina on or around Nov. 23. Relatives told authorities they last saw her waiting on her front porch for a ride to church.
