CENTRALIA — A Saturday afternoon garage fire in Centralia was allegedly set by a female who was angry with the homeowner.

Centralia City firefighters received the call just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday of a structure fire in the 700 block of North Beech Street.

Upon their arrival, firefighters reported flames were showing from the detached garage and both shifts were subsequently called in to help fight the blaze.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and contain the flames to the garage. However, the structure was heavily damaged by the fire and all contents inside were destroyed.

According to authorities, a female friend of the homeowner was upset and she allegedly set the fire. She was ultimately taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation. Her name has not been released.

Firefighters were on scene for about an hour. No injuries were reported.
