MARION COUNTY — A 22-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with arson a day after he reportedly turned himself in for two fires set on South Locust in Centralia last month.

Andrew Davis reportedly admitted to setting fire to an unoccupied home and its detached garage at 1118 South Locust on January 28.

Centralia police and fire officials confirmed Davis’ account of the fires and took him in to custody.

Davis’ confession and arrest resulted in the dismissal of charges against 18-year-old Blaze Snow, of Wamac, who had been held in the Marion County Jail for a week in connection with the fires.

The night of the fires witnesses told police that a male wearing a black hoodie had been seen running from the scene just as flames erupted in the garage.

Police had stopped Davis the night of the fire but because Snow had been identified as the person who fled from the scene, Davis was released.

Davis has also reportedly admitted to setting fire later that same night to a vacant mobile home at 435 South Hickory.

He reportedly told authorities the correct locations for where each of the three fires were started and had confessed to a family friend the night of the fires.

Davis was formally charged in Marion County Court Tuesday with Class 1felony residential arson and Class 2 felony arson of real property. Bail in the case has not yet been set.
