FAYETTE COUNTY — A 53-year-old Hillside, Illinois man is in the Fayette County Jail after a traffic stop on Interstate 57 reportedly revealed a large amount of heroin in his possession.

Ronald K. Scales was stopped by Illinois State Police for an alleged traffic violation. The trooper ultimately called the Fayette County K-9 Unit to the scene of the traffic stop and Deputy Ronnie Stevens and his canine partner Tex assisted in the discovery of approximately 300 grams of heroin.

Scales was taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

He remains in custody awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
