SALEM — A 78-year-old Texas man was extricated from his vehicle Wednesday night following a rollover crash on the Interstate 57 southbound exit in Salem.

According to Illinois State Police, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Clarence Ritchie started to merge onto the exit ramp when his vehicle hydroplaned on the wet pavement. Ritchie then lost control of the vehicle that then slid off the left side of the roadway, crossed over the southbound on-ramp and overturned onto the driver’s side.

Salem firefighters had to extricate Ritchie who was trapped in the vehicle. He was transported to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.

Neither of his passengers, 39-year-old Betsey Ritchie, nor19-year-old Dylan Caylor, both also of Wichita Falls, Texas, were injured.
