KELL — A 62-year-old Kell man was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital Sunday afternoon for treatment of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle crash.

According to reports, Gus Kuesis was southbound on Stuber Road just off Kell Road when he left the roadway, went up into a wooded area, and struck a tree head-on.

Kuesis managed to get out of his truck on his own and walk approximately a half-mile before he was found and emergency personnel called.

Due to the extent of the Kuesis’ injuries it was decided that rather than transport him by ambulance to a local hospital and have the medical helicopter meet them there, the AirEvac helicopter would land at the nearby Kell School where they met the Kell ambulance.

He’s been cited for driving while license revoked, driving without insurance, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
