WAYNE COUNTY — A Fairfield man and woman have been charged in Wayne County Court with criminal damage over the weekend to a local church.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Jonathan S. Stanley and his 24-year-old sister Kenzey B. Stanley have been charged in connection with allegedly spray painting graffiti on the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in rural Jasper Township.

Deputies were notified that surveillance cameras at the church had captured the pair in the act and a review of the video led officials to suspect the siblings of spray painting vulgarities and references to at least two biblical scriptures.

During questioning the Stanleys reportedly told investigators that a “fire had been building up” since their family was kicked out of the church more than 20 years ago.
