MARION COUNTY — A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Marion County on Sunday afternoon resulted in injuries and multiple charges against both the driver and his passenger.
36-year-old Ryan D. Whigham of Hazel Crest, Ill., was traveling south bound on I-57 at mile post 129 south of Farina when his red Kia left the roadway to the left. Whigham overcorrected and then re-entered the south bound lanes. The vehicle then exited the highway to the right and struck a guardrail.
Whigham and his passenger, 33-year-old Ericka C. Kemple of Chicago, were taken to Salem Hospital and later transported to St. Louis University Hospital.
Whigham faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing justice obstructing identification, driving while license suspended/revoked, improper lane usage, and unsafe equipment. Kemple faces obstructing justice and obstructing identification charges.
The crash occurred at 4:18 p.m.
