SALEM — An early morning traffic stop by Salem police has landed two men in the Marion County Jail on drug-related charges.

According to reports, the Salem PD K-9 Unit responded to the traffic stop at U.S. 50 and Westline Road where canine Freddie alerted on the car.

A search resulted in the vehicle’s 46-year-old passenger David Herron, of Centralia being arrested after a scale with a white powdery substance was reportedly found in the passenger side door where he had been sitting.

A subsequent search of Herron’s hotel room reportedly revealed two drug pipes and methamphetamine residue.

A second passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Jeremy Lippert, also of Centralia, was arrested for alleged unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon when a pair of brass knuckles was located where he was seated in the vehicle.

Salem police also charged Herron with Class X felony possession with the intent to deliver between 15 to 100 grams of meth and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver heroin after a large baggie containing 29 grams of meth and 3-grams of heroin were reportedly found in his holding cell at the Marion County Jail.

The sheriff’s office is charging him with bringing contraband into a penal institution.
