CENTRAL CITY — Robert Edward “Bob” Johnston, Jr., 70, of Central City, passed away at 9:11 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on July 7, 1947, in Centralia, the son of the late Robert Edward, Sr. and Venita Irene (Hobbs) Johnston. He married Bonnie Lynn Jones on May 3, 1975, in Edwardsville, and she survives him in Centralia.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Mr. Johnston is survived by his children, Robert Edward Johnston III of Montana, Joseph Lee Johnston of Mt. Vernon, Jeffrey Michael Johnston of Central City, Lisa Marie Higgins and husband James of Central City, and Anthony Aaron Johnston of Central City; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Michael Johnston and wife Ruth of Sandoval, Terry Johnston and wife Mystee of Central City, and John Johnston and wife Tonya of Central City; sister, Polly Johnston and wife Kathleen of Centralia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Keller; and granddaughter, Katlyn Johnston.
Mr. Johnston loved to fish and enjoyed playing the slot machines. He would do anything for his family, especially for his children.
Mr. Johnston retired in 1998 as a driver from South Central Transit after eight years of service. Earlier in life, he was a route salesman and manager with Pepsi Cola Company in Centralia, DuQuoin, Illinois and Paris, Tennessee. He lived the last 20 years of his life in Central City.
It was Mr. Johnston’s wish to be cremated. There will be no public visitation nor services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia.
