EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Colorado truck driver has been charged with several felony counts of reckless homicide and aggravated reckless driving in a crash last November that killed four people in southwestern Illinois.

In a news release, Madison County State’s Attorney says 54-year-old Mohamad Y. Jama of Greely was charged on Tuesday after an Illinois State Police investigation.

The release says the investigation revealed that Jama was driving too fast in a construction zone on Interstate 55 near the community of Hamel when his tractor-trailer slammed into other vehicles that had slowed or stopped.

The crash killed 20-year-old Tori Carroll of Alhambra; 20-year-old Hailey Bertels and her 17-year-old sister, Madisen Bertels, of Staunton; and 19-year-old Vivian Vu of Joplin, Missouri.

Jama is being held without bond in the Madison County Jail.
