MARION COUNTY — A 38-year-old Salem woman was formally charged Wednesday in Marion County court with aggravated battery in a public place and retail theft for allegedly bumping her car into Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon as he was attempting to hold her for retail theft.

Cannon reportedly witnessed Mandy Mingus an another woman leave the Salem Super Walmart store on April 5 with carts full of merchandise they didn’t pay for.

Mingus reportedly bumped Cannon with her vehicle and continued backing out of a parking space while he was reportedly showing her his identification and attempting to stop her from leaving.

According to police reports, Cannon went to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of knee pain following the incident.

Salem police on Tuesday recognized Mingus and arrested her in connection with the April 5 incident.

She was charged with the two Class 3 felonies Wednesday and her bail was set at $25,000. Mingus is next scheduled to appear in court May 17 for a first appearance with her court appointed attorney.
