Daniel E. Morton was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. after sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence situation involving firearms and shots fired.

According to Chief Deputy Clint Taylor, Morton was waiting for them on the front porch of the home and surrendered without incident. He’s currently being held on charges of domestic battery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Bail remains to be set.

Taylor says Morton fired a shotgun through a door inside the home and fired a rifle outside. Deputies confiscated three long-guns from the home in the 13000 block of East Oakton Road. There were no injuries reported. Taylor says Morton does have a valid FOID card.

Morton is already facing charges in Jefferson County for misdemeanor illegal possession of a firearm and felony reckless discharge of a firearm for an alleged incident March 18 at the Sportsman’s Club.

According to Taylor, deputies found Morton with a loaded handgun in the passenger seat of his vehicle after he allegedly fired shots in the parking lot.

It’s unclear when he is next scheduled to appear in court on those earlier charges.
