Kinmundy Man Sentenced in Criminal Sexual Assault Case

MARION — A Kinmundy man who faced multiple charges of criminal sexual assault and abuse was sentenced in Marion County Courty on Thursday.

57-year-old Terry Mulvaney pleaded guilty to Class 1 Felony criminal sexual assault of a person unable to give consent in exchange for the dismissal of a Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim 5-years his junior and misdemeanor giving liquor to a minor.

The charges stemmed from a 2015 incident at his home over the summer involving a 16-year-old female friend of his son who was reportedly attending a party at the Mulvaney home. It is believed the girl may have been drugged, as she reportedly couldn’t remember what happened after she was given a drink.

The allegations weren’t reported until a short time later when the girl told her parents and they took her to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Mulvaney was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with three years to life mandatory supervised release and given credit for time served.
