WAYNE COUNTY — A 27-year-old East St. Louis woman along with two children in her vehicle were taken by ambulance to an area hospital Sunday night after their vehicle overturned multiple times on Interstate 64 in Wayne County.

According to Illinois State Police, around 6:23 p.m. Sunday, Brooke Lewis was traveling eastbound on Interstate 64 with 2 ½ year-old and a 10-month old passengers, when she reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel.

Lewis’ 2003 black Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway and traveled into the median, it then came out of the median and back into the eastbound lanes of travel where it overturned multiple times before coming to rest on the south side of the interstate.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and the three occupants were taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Lewis was cited for improper lane usage and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
