FAYETTE COUNTY — Bond conditions have been modified in Fayette County Court to allow a 29-year-old former teacher and state trooper to have supervised video visitation with his two minor children.

James Dierkes remains in the Fayette County Jail where he’s been held since his December arrest on multiple charges of sexual assault of children under his supervision.

Dierkes is facing nearly a dozen Class 1 felony charges in two separate cases of criminal sexual assault in which victims alleged inappropriate sexual contact on multiple occasions in 2016 when Dierkes’ was a teacher in Vandalia. Immediately following his arrest Dierkes was relieved of duty as an ISP trooper.

Dierkes had been with the state police since 2018. He is next scheduled to appear in court March 31.

He’s being held on a combined $1 million bail in both cases.
