Darrell Dwight Phelps

CENTRALIA — Darrell Dwight Phelps, 93, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020, peacefully at his home.

He was born in Centralia, son of Carroll Dwight (CD) and Juanita (Apple) Phelps.

Mr. Phelps is survived by his three daughters, Malinda Claybourn and husband Mark of Centralia, Melissa Phelps of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mary Jane Wyatt and husband Donnie of Fort Worth, Texas; his grandchildren: Matthew Garrett of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Michael Garrett of Fort Worth, Texas, Zachary Miller of San Diego, California, Meredith Miller of Centralia, Landon Wyatt and Cameron Wyatt of Fort Worth, Texas; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Phelps, his parents, brothers: Jack Carroll (Worry) Phelps and James Phelps and niece: Elizabeth Ann Phelps Sullivan.

Mr. Phelps was a Navy WWII Veteran, retired from Natural Gas Pipeline (Occidental Petroleum) and was a member of the Centralia Elks Lodge 493.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date with Rev. Paula Comper officiating and Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Phelps family.
