CLINTON COUNTY — Three individuals were taken into custody just east of Aviston Thursday morning following a pursuit that started in Central City and continued westbound on U.S. 50 into Clinton County at speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour.

The blue Dodge minivan reportedly fled from Central City police who attempted to stop it in connection with a fight witnessed in the 100 block of East Marvin.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies joined in the pursuit in Sandoval as it moved from northbound U.S. 51 to westbound on U.S. 50.

As the pursuit continued westbound into Clinton County and reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour, authorities sent up a plane to track the vehicle and Illinois State Police joined in the chase.

The van was reported at one point to be driving in oncoming lanes and items were reportedly thrown from the windows.

The pursuit proceeded west on Old US 50 through Beckemeyer and into Breese where officers deployed stop sticks.

The van struck the sticks but rather than stopping the vehicle they reportedly became stuck under the van and it continued to flee.

With its front tires shredded the van began to slow near St. Rose and ultimately stopped just east of Aviston where three male subjects were taken into custody.
