MOUNT VERNON — A 30-year-old Mt. Vernon man who was free on bond in a sexual assault case was arrested Monday in connection with an alleged stabbing in the 1000 block of South 26th.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, Theodore Jefferson was arrested Monday in connection with the reported stabbing.
Page says MVPD officers, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, Litton Ambulance, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 5:25 p.m. Monday to a residence at 1104 South 26th on a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, a person with stab wounds was located at the scene and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation by MVPD detectives, Jefferson was arrested for alleged aggravated domestic battery. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
At the time of his Monday arrest, Jefferson was free on a $6,000 bond in a 2019 case charging him with Class 1 felony forced criminal sexual assault and Class 4 felony unlawful restraint.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene technicians assisted detectives at the scene of Monday’s incident.
