SALEM — Doris F. Gatewood, 95 of Salem, Illinois passed away July 5, 2020, at The Village of Oak Ridge, Washington, IN.
She was born February 10, 1925, in Salem, the daughter of Harry H. and Marguerite (Leckrone) Farthing.
Doris was a retired employee of the Marion County TB Board. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years. Always community-minded volunteer, she formerly served with the American Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. A graduate of Salem Community High School, she was the 1943 Homecoming Queen and was a member of the SCHS Sports Hall of Fame.
In 1946, she was united in marriage with Roy J. Gatewood in Salem. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Gae Gatewood of Freelandville, IN, and Rae Gruenkemeyer and husband Greg of Salem, along with grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) Gruenkemeyer of Imperial, MO, Kacy (Ethan) Greer of Chattanooga TN, and Ashley (Randy) Archer of Freelandville, IN. Also her great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Avery Archer, Eli, Josie and Sydney Gruenkemeyer.
Private graveside services will take place with burial in East Lawn Cemetery, Salem. There will be no public visitation.
