FAYETTE COUNTY — The judge in a Fayette County case found a 45-year-old Missouri man guilty Thursday morning with four of eight felony counts against him, including traveling to meet a minor.

Judge Kim Koester heard the case against Shelby D. Weston during a bench trial last month. She took the matter under advisement while allowing attorneys seven days to submit additional arguments in writing before she rendered judgment.

On Thursday Judge Koester ruled that Weston is guilty of Class 3 felony traveling to meet a minor, Class 4 felony grooming and on two Class 3 felony counts of possessing child pornography.

She ordered a pre-sentencing report to be completed in the case and scheduled sentencing for December 17.

Weston is already a registered sex offender in Missouri. It was the traveling to meet a minor and the grooming charges that reportedly led to the discovery of the child pornography when Weston was arrested in Vandalia.

According to court information, Weston possessed three photographs and one video of a child under the age of 13, and two other photos of a child under the age of 18.

The Missouri Sex Offender Registry shows Weston was convicted in 2004 in Missouri on multiple charges including enticing and attempting to entice a child, as well as attempted statutory sodomy of a child.

Weston has been held in the Fayette County Jail since his March 2017 arrest, with bail set at $250,000. The court revoked bond on Thursday and he will remain in custody.
