EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A 24-year-old Indiana man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Fairfield, Illinois teen whose remains were discovered in December 2017 in rural Wayne County.

Brody Murbarger

Brodey Murbarger was arrested Wednesday morning in Evansville, Indiana, after an Illinois grand jury indicted him for Megan Nichols’ murder. He’s charged in Wayne County, Ill., with three counts of first-degree murder, two Class X felony counts of home invasion to commit a sex offense, and Class 3 felony concealment of a homicidal death.

Megan was 15-years-old and was last seen July 3, 2014, when she withdrew money from a local bank while on her bicycle.

Bones were discovered Dec. 26, 2017, in a shallow grave in a field south of Boyleston, Ill. Those remains were collected by the FBI, who was able in 2018 to positively identify them as those of Nichols.

Investigators say they took Murbarger into custody outside his place of employment. Those investigators also searched his home in Evansville.

Murbarger is now in the Vandergraph County Indiana jail and is expected to be extradited to Illinois to face charges.
