WASHINGTON COUNTY — A Marion man suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in Washington County Tuesday.

According to Illinois State Police, a 2015 white International straight truck driven by 41-year-old Curtis Evans of Raleigh, NC and a 2015 white GMC Yukon driven by 47-year-old Travis Akin of Marion were both traveling east on I-64 near milepost 43 when Evans left the roadway to the right, overcorrected then crossed both lanes leaving the road to the left.

Evans entered the median, then started to re-enter the left lane when his truck rolled and came to rest in the left lane on its side.

Akin was unable to avoid striking Evans’ truck. Akin was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Evans was not injured but was cited for improper lane usage.

The roadway was closed for three hours during the crash investigation.
