CENTRALIA — A few hours after it appeared the Moose Annual Halloween Children’s Parade wouldn’t take place Saturday, Wamac Mayor Butch Mathus stepped in to ensure the event would go on.

The Centralia Moose announced Wednesday afternoon that due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the area, along with guidance from their State Fraternal Organization, Governor JB Pritzker, and CDC guidelines, the 63rd Annual Children’s Halloween Parade in Centralia was canceled.

However, Mathus received permission from the City of Centralia to move forward with the event and it will be held still be held Saturday morning at Evers Field.

Children should begin arriving at 10 a.m. Judging will be at 10:30, followed by the parade around Evers Field at eleven.

According to Mathus, several anonymous donors are providing the prize money awarded for the best costumes in each division.

Mathus asks those attending the event to follow CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and social distancing.
