Darla Griffin

CENTRALIA — Darla Griffin, 58, of Centralia, passed away peacefully Monday, November 2, 2020, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born July 21, 1962, in Salem, the daughter of Edward Winegarner and Marilyn (Young) Winegarner. She married Gary Klamm in 1980 and they later divorced. On January 1, 2000, Darla married James “Jim” Griffin and he survives in Centralia.

In addition to her mother, Marilyn Winegarner of Texico, Darla is also survived by her husband of 20 years, Jim Griffin of Centralia; her three children: Jason Klamm and wife April of Centralia, John Klamm of Centralia and Savannah Griffin and significant other Logan Dailey of Centralia; two step-sons: Zachary Griffin and wife Jessica of Alton and Darrin Griffin and wife Rose of Naperville; 13 grandchildren; three brothers: Eddie Winegarner and fiancé Lisa of Centralia, David Winegarner and wife Twilla of Junction City, and Troy Winegarner and wife Kelley of Centralia; a sister: Jeanna Winegarner and fiancé Gary of Texico; father and mother-in-law: Raymond Griffin and wife Sharon of Walnut Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lila Williams and husband Gary of Alma and Susan Weibley and husband Tony of Centralia, several nieces and nephews whom she loved.

She was preceded in death by her father, a step-son: James Eric Griffin, a brother: Gary Winegarner, cousin: Betty Doudera Kaufman, and mother-in-law: Pearl Jones Griffin.

Darla started working in area restaurants at a young age. In her adult years, she worked at the original Little Nashville Restaurant in Nashville, Illinois. After her daughter started school Darla started her own cleaning services and continued this till her diagnosis with cancer. She enjoyed crocheting pillow dolls, working in her flower garden and baking. Darla loved going to the beach in Florida with her family and she enjoyed dancing the night away with Jim. Darla was a people person and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Per Darla’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Sandy Branch Cemetery in rural Alma at 2 pm Saturday, November 7, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family or the Warrior Nation Cancer Foundation and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Griffin family.
