MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on U.S. 51 at Red Stripe Road Friday morning.

Centralia dispatch received a call around 10:30 Friday morning of a male pedestrian that had been struck by a black SUV.

The 25-year-old pedestrian was lying in the road and the SUV was headed south toward Centralia.

Central City police ultimately stopped a black Mercury Mountaineer in the 300 block of North Broadway in Central City that was reportedly driving erratically.

The driver, a 38-year-old Centralia man was described as being covered in blood. Ambulances were dispatched to both scenes and both men were transported to the Emergency Room at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate and Illinois State Police troopers were en route.
