MARION COUNTY — Illinois State Police have released more information regarding a story we brought you Friday about a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 51 south of Sandoval.

According to ISP, around 10:35 Friday morning, a black Mercury Mountaineer being driven by 38-year-old Tyrone “TG” Etheridge, of Centralia was traveling south on US Route 51, just south of Red Stripe Road when an altercation began between Etheridge and rear-seat passenger, 25-year-old Matthew Woods.

The Mercury came to a stop and Woods was forced from the vehicle by Etheridge. As the Mercury departed the scene, it ran over Woods’ left foot.

Woods was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Central City police stopped Etheridge a short time later. He was reportedly covered in blood and was also transported by ambulance to an area hospital due to injuries suffered in the altercation with Woods.

Etheridge was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, Driving with an Expired Driver’s License, and Reckless Driving.

Additional charges are pending investigation. The investigation is being led by the ISP, in conjunction with the Centralia Police Department.
