FAYETTE COUNTY — A 45-year-old Missouri man was sentenced Thursday in Fayette County Court in Illinois to 13 years in prison on grooming and child pornography charges.

Judge Kim Koester had earlier found Shelby D. Weston guilty on four of eight felony counts against him, including traveling to meet a minor.

Weston was convicted of Class 3 felony traveling to meet a minor, Class 4 felony grooming and two Class 3 felony counts of possessing child pornography.

On Thursday Judge Koester sentenced Weston to 5 years for traveling to meet a minor, 3 years for grooming, 5 years for possession of child pornography and 4 years of probation for possession of child pornography. The prison sentences were ordered to be served consecutively.

Weston is already a registered sex offender in Missouri. It was the traveling to meet a minor and the grooming charges that reportedly led to the discovery of the child pornography when Weston was arrested in Vandalia.

According to court information, Weston possessed three photographs and one video of a child under the age of 13, and two other photos of a child under the age of 18.

The Missouri Sex Offender Registry shows Weston was convicted in 2004 in Missouri on multiple charges including enticing and attempting to entice a child, as well as attempted statutory sodomy of a child.

Weston has been held in the Fayette County Jail since his March 2017 arrest.
