Jackie “Jack” D. Scanlan

CENTRALIA — Jackie “Jack” D. Scanlan, 78, of Centralia, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia due to Covid-19.

Jack was born March 26, 1942, in Venedy, IL, the son of Wendell Scanlan and Ogelby Scanlan. He married Barbara (Self) Scanlan in Mt. Vernon on August 28, 1967, and she survives him in Centralia.

In addition to his wife Barbara Scanlan of 53 years, Jack is survived by one son: Jackie Thomas Scanlan of Centralia; one daughter: Dorothea Woods of North Carolina; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother: Eddie Scanlan of Belleville; one sister: Sharon Storck and husband Kenny of Okawville; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents: Wendell and Ogelby Scanlan and six brothers and sisters.

Jack was a member of the Centralia Church of Christ. He worked for the Centralia Morning Sentinel for 20 years. He was an avid Cardinals fan. Jack snow coned for 20 years and loved doing it. He will be greatly missed.

Per Jack’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with no public services to be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centralia Church of Christ and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Scanlan family.
