MOUNT VERNON — Three people were arrested Sunday at a hotel in Mt. Vernon on drug charges and in connection with attempted murder over the weekend in Effingham County.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, law enforcement officials in Jefferson County were contacted by law enforcement agents in the Effingham County area requesting they be on the lookout for two attempted homicide suspects who were believed to be in the Jefferson County area.

This was in connection to an incident that had occurred in the Altamont area. Altamont officials confirm they’re investigating a stabbing incident that occurred Saturday afternoon. They say the stabbing was not fatal but they’re not releasing names at this time.

Mt. Vernon officials say a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy, who is also a member of the United State’s Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, located the suspect vehicle parked at the Days Inn on Potomac, in Mt Vernon.

The Mt Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High-Risk Team and Mt Vernon Police Department / Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Joint Narcotics Unit were activated to assist with a search for the suspects.

After further investigations, two suspects were located at the hotel and taken into custody without incident. The two suspects were identified as 37- year- old Kristina N Anderson, of Bonnie, and 33-year-old Blake R Miller, of Mt. Vernon.

High-Risk Team members were able to secure their hotel room without incident and also found 55-year-old Stephanie L Rivera, of Mt. Vernon, in the room. Police say illegal narcotics were observed in the room.

Narcotics detectives applied for, and received, a Jefferson County search warrant for the hotel room.

During a search, detectives reportedly located methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and drug equipment.

Miller was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County on local charges of Possession of between 15 and 100 grams of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Possession of between 1 and 15 grams of Heroin with Intent to Deliver, and an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant for Parole Violation.

Bail on the local charges remains to be set, there is no bond on the parole violation warrant. Miller also has an Effingham County warrant for Attempted Homicide with bail set at $750,000.

Anderson was transported back to Effingham County after being arrested on an Effingham County warrant for Aggravated Battery. Bail on that warrant was set at $100,000.

Anderson will also face charges in Jefferson County for Obstructing Justice and Possession of between 5 – 15 grams of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver.
