Van W. Klaus has remained in the Fayette County Jail with bail set at 250,000 since his August arrest by Vandalia police.

Klaus was charged with one Class X felony count of armed violence, two Class 3 felony counts of aggravated battery, and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of weapons for stabbing 26-year-old Bo Belcher multiple times.

Belcher was found lying in the street in the 400 block of Gallatin Street.

He was initially taken to the Fayette County Hospital for treatment but was ultimately transferred to another medical facility.

Klaus pleaded guilty Friday to the Class X felony charge of armed violence in exchange for the other charges being dismissed.

He’ll have to serve three years parole upon his release from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
