Mary Dodson

SALEM — Mary Dodson, 81, of Salem, passed away, Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home.

She was born May 14, 1939, in Iuka, the daughter of Walter Stanford and Versie (Meador) Stanford. Mary married Eddie Dodson on August 25, 1958, and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Mary is survived by her 11 children: Ronnie Dodson of Salem, Mary Brookman and husband William “Bill” of Centralia, Carla Helm and husband Marshall of Salem, Eddie Dodson, Jr. and wife Sara of Iuka, Larry Dodson and wife Sandy of Salem, Teresa Smith of Salem, Tammy Masters and husband George of Dawsonville, Georgia, Cheryl January and David of Centralia, Beverly Scanlan of Salem, Tommy Dodson and wife Stacy of Texico, and Timothy “Timmy” Dodson and wife Mandee of Salem; 32 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the way; two brothers: Irvin Stanford of Iuka and Glen Stanford of Texas; a sister: Martha Helpingstine of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law: Tim Scanlan, three brothers: Jesse Stanford, Merle Stanford and Ward Stanford, and two sisters: May Ratts and Ruby Yott.

Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed solving word search puzzles, crocheting, and tending to her garden and flowers. Mary loved to cook for her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

A private funeral service will be held Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Burial will follow at the Paradise Cemetery in Salem.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the funeral home. Anyone who attends the visitation at the funeral home will be required to wear a mask and social distance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Dodson family.
