Have you heard of the term “blockbuster”? Hit movies are sometimes referred to as “blockbusters”.
This term actually goes back to World War 2. A blockbuster was a type of bomb that was quote “so powerful it could decimate a city block.”
And thus, the name “blockbuster” caught on as a descriptor of a hit movie.
In the 1950s, a producer defined a blockbuster as “any movie that grossed over $2 million.”
