SALEM — Imogene B. Hollinshead, 92, of Salem, Illinois passed away May 5, 2021, at Salem Township Hospital.
She was born November 3, 1928, in Foraker, OK, the daughter of Edgar T. and Ora Belle (McIntosh) Rogers.
Imogene will be remembered by family and friends for being very community-spirited. She was a beauty operator for many years at their farm home in Farina. She worked for the Farina phone company in the early years, loved everything about Christmas and decorating for the holiday season. An outstanding seamstress, she made many wedding gowns, and also costumes for the plays and productions through the school system. Her children will always remember the many life lessons she taught them, how to work hard, to be responsible, to pick up corn and sell in order to buy new school clothes, and especially how to camp as a family, usually at Forbes or Carlyle Lake, making use of what you had, even a tarp for a tent. She spent countless hours playing board games, cards and puzzles. As a couple, she and her husband loved dancing to the Big Band sounds of that period in time.
She united in marriage with Raymond J. Hollinshead, March 26, 1948, in Corinth MS and he preceded her in death May 19, 2010.
Surviving are her children, David Hollinshead and wife Kathy of Teutopolis, IL, Alan Hollinshead and wife Becky of Salem, IL, Dana Underwood and husband Dan of Springfield, IL, Linda Hollinshead of MO and Dreama Robinson and husband Dennis of Lake Station, IN, along with 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and her sister Marie of Salem, IL.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joe Hollinshead and a grandson Cody Hollinshead.
