VANDALIA — An emergency landing Friday night near Vandalia sent the pilot of a small plane to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, they received a report around 8:45 p.m. Friday of a plane crash south of Vandalia Municipal Airport.

Upon arrival, Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies and Vandalia police located the pilot, 40-year-old Dustin Brewer, who said the plane lost power while he was attempting to land at the airport.

Brewer was taken by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He was cited by Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies for Operating an Aircraft Under the Influence.

Vandalia firefighters assisted at the scene.  The case is pending further investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
